The Professional Development Fund

Mission: To devote a financial resource for improving student experiential learning, service-learning, research experiences, and leadership skills that engage and contribute to the student's professional development.

Eligibility & Selection

  • Maximum award is $400 per student per fiscal year.
  • Applicants must be a member of ASNMSU (successfully paid the ASNMSU fee as part of the NMSU Required Fees).
  • Applicants must be in good standing with University Academic Progress.
  • Funds will be awarded in the form of a reimbursement.
  • Applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the ASNMSU Appropriations Board. Awards are based on merit and available funding.
  • Applicants will be notified of acceptance via e-mail within 2 weeks of submission.
  • Important: Applicants will have 60 days to submit the application from the date of certification completion (no exceptions will be offered).

Application Requirements

  • Personal Statement: One-page letter explaining the benefit of the certification or examination towards the student or the University.
  • Program Information: Proof of legitimacy for non-examinations or proof of examinations.
  • Cost of Program.
  • Verification: Official receipts (other proof may be requested).
  • Letter of Recommendation: Faculty or advisor endorsement describing the benefit of the program and merit of the applicant.
  • Service: 5 hours of documented community service.
Important Exclusions

Examination fees for graduate education programs (e.g., LSAT, GRE, MCAT) are completely excluded from eligibility.

  • Micro-credentials (MOS, Excel)
  • Laboratory Workshops
  • Wilderness Skills Certification (WFR)
  • State Certifications and Examinations
  • Farm and Agriculture Certifications
  • Continuing Education Credits
  • Nursing Examinations (HESI, NES, NCLEX)
  • Fundamentals of Engineering Exam
  • Business and Accounting Certifications
