Running For Office

 

The election process for ASNMSU President/Vice President:

The candidate shall file, in the ASNMSU office, an affidavit petition (petition of candidacy) acknowledging candidacy for office and must be declared an official candidate by the Election Board.

1. On the affidavit each candidate shall put their contact information, college and position for which they are a candidate and acknowledge their candidacy by signing the following statement:

I (name of candidate), acknowledge my candidacy for the office of (title of office), and shall, if elected, accept the duties and responsibilities of the office. I am a member of the ASNMSU not suffering disability by academic or disciplinary probation and am qualified, as prescribed by the ASNMSU Constitution, to accept and run for the office for which I am a candidate.

2. Individuals seeking the office of the ASNMSU President or Vice President shall submit an affidavit petition (petition of candidacy) signed by no fewer than one hundred (100) members of the ASNMSU who wish to nominate the candidate. No member of the ASNMSU shall sign more than one (1) petition of candidacy for the President or Vice President during any one (1) academic year.

3. For a candidate’s name to be placed on the official ballot, the candidate must attend at least one (1) candidates briefing as called by the Chief Elections Officer, or be officially excused from the same.

4. Any other elected positions as may exist within the ASNMSU shall follow the same pattern as the President and Vice President, with the exception that twenty-five (25) signatures shall be required for any candidate seeking such an office.

On the affidavit each candidate shall put their contact information, college and position for which they are a candidate and acknowledge their candidacy by signing the following statement:Individuals seeking the office of ASNMSU Senator shall submit together with their affidavit a petition (petition of candidacy) signed by no fewer than twenty-five (25) ASNMSU members of the candidate’s college who wish to nominate the candidate. No member of the ASNMSU shall sign more petitions of candidacy than positions to be voted on for senator from that college at the general election.

Individuals seeking the office of ASNMSU Senator shall submit together with their affidavit a petition (petition of candidacy) signed by no fewer than twenty-five (25) ASNMSU members of the candidate’s college who wish to nominate the candidate. No member of the ASNMSU shall sign more petitions of candidacy than positions to be voted on for senator from that college at the general election.

3. Individuals seeking the office of ASNMSU Senator of College of Extended Learning shall be allowed no fewer than twenty-five (25) digital or written signatures of ASNMSU members of the College of Extended Learning. No member of said college shall sign more petitions of candidacy than positions to be voted on from that college in the general election
