The Senate

The Legislative Branch is composed of thirty Senators elected at-large from the student body of the seven colleges at New Mexico State University . The number of Senators each college receives is based upon the enrollment in that college. Senators serve their college for a term of one year, serving staggering terms with elections being held every November and April.

Senators are responsible for writing bills to help clubs and organizations. Attend conferences and competitions and resolutions pertaining to official University and ASNMSU business. Senators must attend bi-weekly Committee and College Council meetings where they discuss current issues amongst themselves and students within their respective councils so that they may be able to maintain and update the laws of ASNMSU.

ASNMSU Senate meets on a regular basis every other Thursday to pass legislation on a variety of issues affecting the students of NMSU.

The Senate is presided over by the ASNMSU Vice President, and is divided into three committees: Community Affairs, Rules and Finance.
